My First Basketball Game

I open the door and step out onto the courts.  In my dark blue school basketball uniform I feel a mix of nervousness and excitement.

I see my team somewhere on a court, training.  After getting some rebounds people on my team say well done.  I feel as warm as someone in front of the fire.  More and more of my team come and we do some shooting practice.

Eventually we get a glimpse of our opponents for this game.  Their uniforms are green. We get together for a bit of a team talk.  Everyone in my team are basically my friends.
Our starting team is called out.  I’m in it!  I feel a mix of feelings bottling up inside me at tip off.  The game starts;  everyone runs and marks and stays in support and tries to keep up with the ball.  I pick up some rebounds. Jacob then scores, again and again. The other team get into a good position and are just about to go for it when Aston blocks.  Then Stephen and Deegan score some goals.  Between that I get some touches.  Then I get another rebound, pass it in and after a few moments I get the ball.  I’m under the goal.  I shoot and… it goes in the net!  Inside I feel really, extraordinarily, brilliantly happy. After a bit more play I get subbed.
The first break is called.  I feel great. We go through a team talk.

As the game restarts I spend a little bit of time on the bench before I come back on.  I run hard down the court.  I mark.  The first half ends.  As the third quarter begins Finn scores twice and so does Rohan.  We run up and down the court.  I get subbed again.  The last quarter begins.  I stretch.  I go back on and some people are saying, “Let’s get forty!”  We surpass it.  The game ends.  I had a great time.  The final score was 42 – 8.

After shaking hands we go to a place to choose a player of the day.  I’m excited for it.  After talking about how everyone deserves it it comes down to the final decision.  They say my name!  I smile a hugely happy smile.  They say the reasons;  there were quite a few.  That is great too.  I feel fabulous.  I feel fantastic.  I thank my coach and we walk out of the arena.  I had so much fun.  It was amazing, a magnificent first game I feel.
